The Bingo games history:
Did you know that bingo has been played from as far back in history as the Romans, obviously not called bingo then, but a variation all the same.
Bingos next giant leap forward came in America in the late twenties when a travelling salesman developed his own version called Beano which, took America by storm. Around 1960 in the UK, Bingo finally arrived and it has stayed in the same form we all know it as today, since. More than three million players a week, back then, were spending their social times at one of the 2400 big bingo halls around the country where thousand would pack each place out every night, hoping to win the top prize. The top prizes when bingo was first established in the 60`s were averaging the £1,000 level, a far cry from the prizes available today. Today, with the popularity of the internet nearly 7 percent of the adult population plays bingo online, almost double the amount of women play but for how long.
This explosion of playing bingo online, has been at the cost of the traditional bingo hall, as numbers have fallen to less than 700 halls left in the UK. There a huge range of sites available for you to play bingo online and there are a lot which are conjoined and combined to offer staggering top prizes and with thousands, if not millions of people taking part, trying to win it.
Its main evolution though, came in the late 18th Century, when the Italians established their national lottery game, the first state run lotto game in the world. The game of bingo established itself in the UK at the turn of the 20th Century, know then as housey housey, was one of the most popular games of its time, a familiar and major part of the seaside holiday experience and village hall social scene.
