The origins of the modern Casino.
The first official casino was recorded in Venice in the mid 17th Century, Initially called a “cassa “ derived from the Italian word for house. The cassa was set up by the Venetian authorities to accommodate all the wealthy merchant gamblers, who were attending a week long festival and so guaranteeing the Viennese government would get their share of the money gambled. And so, the Casino was born.
